Media/News

Hero Brain Health and the eTMS approach have been gaining attention across the country – from news media coverage, to legislative briefings, to features in medical journals.

We believe in keeping the public informed about our work and celebrating the growing recognition of this therapy’s impact. Below are some highlights of recent media and news items related to eTMS and our mission:

“It’s Life Changing” – Spectrum News (Tampa, FL): June 2025

Spectrum Bay News 9 in Florida profiled an eTMS clinic and its patients, calling the treatment “life changing” for veterans and first responders. The story highlighted Navy veteran John D., who after years of severe insomnia now sleeps 7–8 hours a night thanks to eTMS. The segment also noted that patients receive the treatment free of charge through the state-supported program and typically undergo 20 sessions (five days a week over four weeks). It featured on-camera testimonials, including a technician who observed, “We’re literally seeing people’s personalities come back…They’re entirely new people – just happier and mentally healthier.” This kind of local news coverage underscores the real-world impact and human interest in eTMS. Florida Statewide Expansion – Florida Politics: April 2025

FloridaPolitics.com reported on the opening of anew eTMS clinic in Jacksonville, noting that similar clinics were already operating in Orlando, Miami, and Tampa. The article emphasized that Florida’s network provides free access to EEG-guided TMS for veterans and first responders, helping them recover from PTSD and other conditions. It featured a powerful quote from a Jacksonville firefighter who underwent treatment: “Before eTMS I was stuck in a fog… Now I feel more clear-headed and fully in control,” illustrating the personal transformation brought by the therapy. The piece also mentioned that over 1,000 military personnel were served by Florida’s eTMS clinics in the past five years, demonstrating the program’s scale and reach. Coverage in outlets like Florida Politics has helped raise awareness among policy-makers, showing how public funding and community support can successfully expand mental health resources for heroes.

Missouri Pilot Success – KCTV5 (Kansas City): December 2023

CBS affiliate KCTV5 News covered the launch of an eTMS clinic in Kansas City, Missouri, which operates under a state pilot program. The news story included interviews with program staff and participants, describing the treatment as “lifesaving” and focusing on its ripple effect in the community. One key point reported was that about 85–90%of treated individuals see results, with symptom reduction in the 55–70% range, based on the program’s early data. “Our results are better than most other modalities out there,” said the clinical director, noting that they are changing lives “without putting people through years of counseling or heavy meds”. The news segment also showed state legislators touring the facility and expressed that expansion into neighboring states (like Kansas) was being pursued. Such coverage not only informs the public but also serves as a call to action for lawmakers: indeed, program managers publicly invited senators and representatives to come see the success for themselves. This aligns perfectly with Healing Heroes’ approach – we welcome dialogue with officials and stakeholders to secure support for making these treatments widely available.

Ohio Legislative Hearing – Wave Neuroscience Presentation: March 2025

Dr. Erik Won, president of Wave Neuroscience (our technology partner), presented an eTMS program update to the Ohio Senate Armed Services and Veterans Affairs Committee. In this hearing (covered in Wave Neuroscience’s media releases), Dr.Won shared the outcomes of Ohio’s eTMS pilot, including the impressive PTSD improvement rates: eTMS showed a 63% improvement on PTSD scores, compared to roughly 30% with standard TMS and even lower with medication alone. He also highlighted successes in addressing substance use (with eTMS reducing alcohol and opioid cravings by over 55–60% in pilot studies). The FDA’s Breakthrough Device designation for eTMS was noted, underscoring its potential to revolutionize mental health treatment. Ohio’s legislative interest and subsequent budget funding for eTMS have been influential, setting a precedent that Healing Heroes is hoping to replicate in our region. We make it a point to keep our elected officials apprised of our outcomes, and we are encouraged to see bipartisan support growing for innovative treatments like this. (For those interested, the Ohio Channel has an archived video of this committee session – Dr. Won’s testimony begins around the 41-minute mark.)

Research in Peer-Reviewed Journals

eTMS is also making waves in the scientific community. In addition to the 2015 and 2024/2025 studies mentioned in our Data section, more papers are being published that validate and refine this approach. For example, Frontiers in Neurology (Feb 2025) published Frueh et al.’s study on special operations veterans, which concluded that personalized alpha-frequency TMS led to “significant decreases in PTSD and TBI symptoms” and recommended further clinical trials given the positive outcomes. Frontiers in Psychiatry (June 2024) featured Bailar-Heath et al.’s report on active-duty service members, similarly finding robust PTSD and depression symptom reductions with EEG-guided TMS and affirming its safety. These publications in reputable journals lend clinical credibility to what we do at Healing Heroes. We are essentially translating this body of research into practice for our patients. Our team stays up-to-date with the latest findings and is often involved in collaborative studies. By being part of a larger research network (through Wave Neuroscience and partnering universities), we ensure that our treatment protocols are always informed by the newest evidence. This means you are receiving cutting-edge care that’s vetted by experts worldwide.

Department of Defense & VA Interest

The U.S. Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs have shown increasing interest in eTMS as an adjunct or alternative to traditional treatments. There are ongoing DoD-supported clinical trials – for instance, studies at Virginia Tech and Wright State University are currently recruiting veterans to formally evaluate the efficacy of this technology for PTSD. Furthermore, military medical conferences have featured presentations on eTMS (sometimes called MeRT or “alpha-targeted rTMS”), with Air Force and Special Operations medical units sharing anecdotal successes. The Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) has internally referred to these therapies in the context of their human performance programs aimed at addressing operator PTSD/TBI. We anticipate that in the near future, organizations like the VA will develop protocols to offer EEG-guided TMS in VA hospitals, especially if the current trials continue to show positive results. Healing Heroes is positioning itself to be a leader in this space, possibly serving as a training and demonstration site for government and VA healthcare providers interested in adopting eTMS. Being in Boston – a hub for medical innovation – we are also exploring partnerships with academic medical centers and veteran service organizations to further validate and expand access to our program.
